KISS YOUR FACE MAKEUP KIT
1978, REMCO
A kitsch TV commercial - featuring dodgy acting and two leads that probably had no prior knowledge of the band they were hawking - was most people’s introduction to this particular product. Three versions exist: The first version (as pictured right) lists that you can ‘make yourself up like Gene, Paul, Criss, Ace’. A second version fixed Peter’s name and changed the logo from all red to a sunburst style. The third version (below) had a bright yellow flash advertising a ‘New Water Soluble Formula’ version so the kiddies didn’t have to use the make-up remover. The original kit itself had six numbered pieces: A white face cover, black liner crayon, red lipstick, green eye shadow, silver eye cover, grey toner plus makeup remover and two makeup brushes. In the ‘Water-Soluble’ version the makeup was not in tubes but set in plastic like you would expect from a watercolour set. An Australian version was also released by Croner Toys with a campy TV ad all of its own.
