VIEW-MASTER SPECIAL SUBJECTS
1979, GAF-CORP
The company had a long history dating back to 1919. These plastic ‘stereoscopic toys’ used thin cardboard disks containing seven 3-D photos. Taken over by the GAF Corporation in 1966 the attention turned to licensed products. The craze got so big in the ‘60s-’70s, that almost every TV/Movie brand got their own View-Master reel from Here’s Lucy to Beverley Hillbillies to Doctor Who to The Man From U.N.C.L.E.! The KISS images were taken from shots featuring their new Dynasty outfits with the band posing instances that would work in 3-D along with a range of photos from the band’s ‘Return Of KISS’ tour. This set came in three versions: The usual square packaging, the Canadian version featured on the backing card (right) and a much rarer fold-out card version. The regular version was also inserted into a cardboard backing and sold with the viewer as part of a 'starter kit' but none of that particular packaging was KISS-themed and any set of View-Master reels could be inserted and sold this way.
