'SCREAM MACHINE' CUPS
1978, APC
“What on earth was a Scream Machine?” we hear you ask? (Actually, those voices may be in our heads) Well, if you couldn’t tell by the picture, you’d learn they were 7½-inch plastic cups sold at various venues on the Love Gun/Alive II tours when a Pepsi product was purchased.
The bottom could be punched out to turn the empty cup into a mini-megaphone. The cup came in five colours: blue, white, green, yellow and orange. Though the same sticker was used for all and featured cropped Ken Kelly LOVE GUN-art with the title ‘Have a Pepsi Day’ written underneath. Pepsi also created identical ‘Scream Machine’ cups for other bands such as Yes and Boston.
Rumours suggest that the white versions were also available at the Magic Mountain concert during the filming of the 1978 NBC TV movie 'Kiss Meets The Phantom' of the Park. Given the age and cheapness of the plastic, these are very susceptible to splitting and cracking, these days.
